Campus Donates to Breakfast Programme
For Release Upon Receipt - Wednesday, February 22, 2012
Mandated to provide tertiary level education, the University of the West Indies at Cave Hill recently demonstrated its commitment to support an adequate learning environment at various levels when it donated generously to an energizing and nutrition programme which targets the island’s needy school children.
A cheque in the amount of $10,000.00 was presented to the YWCA Breakfast Club at their headquarters in Deacons Farm. The money will support the “Y”’s breakfast programme which benefits children in need of a hot meal to start their school day. The funds resulted from a Christmas bazaar held by the campus community who contributed a wide array of items for sale including household articles, decorations, clothing, art, books, children toys and direct monetary donations.
The bazaar which yielded a heart-warming response from members of the campus community was the third such Christmas community outreach activity. Others included repairs by the campus’s Maintenance Department to the home of a neighbouring elderly resident and the decorating of the children’s ward at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
