Dr. Jan Yves Remy Appointed Deputy Director of the Shridath Ramphal Centre

Dr. Jan Yves Natalie Remy has been appointed deputy director of the Shridath Ramphal Centre effective August 27, 2018.
Dr. Remy brings to the post almost two decades of global experience in international trade law, working in various capacities on behalf of governments and private stakeholders.
Prior to this post, Dr. Remy spent five years in the Geneva office of the Sidley Austin corporate law firm as a Senior Trade Associate. While there, she closely collaborated with other members of the firm's International Trade and International Arbitration groups on a range of international trade and dispute resolution matters. Dr. Remy also provided negotiating and policy advice on areas such as the legal and policy implications of Brexit, the impact of the Donald Trump Presidency, matters relating to the loss of corresponding banking relationships by some Caribbean banks, and the impact of climate change.
The international trade law specialist also worked for six years as a legal officer with the Appellate Body Secretariat of the WTO in Geneva, assisting members of that body in their disposition of appeals of trade matters conducted under the WTO's dispute settlement mechanism. She also provided legal counsel to the Appellate Body Members in a number of complicated and high-profile WTO disputes involving a wide range of substantive areas of WTO law. Dr. Remy also served for two years as a services trade analyst at the Caribbean Regional Negotiating Machinery (CRNM), where she aided in the coordination of the negotiating positions of Caribbean governments and advised and represented them in multilateral, bilateral and regional negotiations.
She remains a committed Caribbean integrationist and is keenly attuned to topics and issues relating to international law and policy and their implications for Caribbean governments.
