Please note that libraries will not usually lend rare, fragile, or expensive material, or periodicals. In the event that only small portions of a work, or perhaps only an article from a journal is needed, it may be possible to obtain photocopies or an electronic copy. Exact bibliographical details, including inclusive page references, are very necessary. Borrowers will be required to sign a declaration for material which is copyright.
Patrons will be required to pay for all material borrowed, photocopied or purchased on their behalf, at the supplier's rate. Payment for transportation costs, both ways, may also be required, particularly if the material is sent by airmail and insured. Patrons are reminded to check the Library's electronic journals for articles before submitting requests.
Please contact the Readers' Services Librarian for additional information.
The Library will scan appropriate material for its patrons. Patrons must supply an email address for delivery of scanned material. Please apply at the Circulation Desk for this service.
There is a wireless network on level two of the Library that will give access to the Internet. Access to the University network and email is forthcoming in 2006. Patrons may use laptops in the Library provided that there are no trailing wires and that you do not unplug Library equipment. You must ensure that you have the appropriate wireless LAN card in your laptop in order to secure access.
A book drop for returning material when the Library is closed is located off the main lobby, to your left.
Carrels for UWI post graduate students are located on level two of the Library. Users must obtain a key from the Circulation Desk.
Discussion Room (Coming Shortly)
The 24-Hour Reading Room is located on level two of the Library. After 11:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and on weekends, access is via the northwestern entrance to the library. The use of the 24-Hour Reading Room is governed by the Main Library's regulations and policies, and by its Code of Conduct. The reading room is closed on weekdays from 7.00 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. A limited number of lockers are available off the main lobby. These lockers are for use only while patrons are in the library. Pay phones and a water cooler are located in the main lobby of the Library. Restrooms are located just off the main lobby, to your right.
Readers' Services also offers training and instruction on conducting research in specific subject areas by request. In addition, the Library offers various training sessions at set times during the semester. Sign up sheets are available in the catalogue hall on level 1 of the Library.
You may check Library News for current programmes and schedules.
Library tours and instructional sessions are available at other times by appointment. Please contact the Readers' Services Librarian.
