Interlibrary Loan and Document Delivery

The Library will undertake to obtain on interlibrary loan material which is not available in its collection. Application forms are available at the Circulation and Reference Desks, or you may complete and submit an online application. Depending on availability and location, it generally takes 3-6 weeks to obtain material through ILL. Users are contacted when borrowed material has arrived, and are required to pick up the material at the Circulation Desk.

Please note that libraries will not usually lend rare, fragile, or expensive material, or periodicals. In the event that only small portions of a work, or perhaps only an article from a journal is needed, it may be possible to obtain photocopies or an electronic copy. Exact bibliographical details, including inclusive page references, are very necessary. Borrowers will be required to sign a declaration for material which is copyright.

Patrons will be required to pay for all material borrowed, photocopied or purchased on their behalf, at the supplier's rate. Payment for transportation costs, both ways, may also be required, particularly if the material is sent by airmail and insured. Patrons are reminded to check the Library's electronic journals for articles before submitting requests.

Please contact the Readers' Services Librarian for additional information.

Requests for Items

Readers who require an item which does not appear to be on the shelves, or is not recorded in the catalogue, may place a request for the item by filling out a Reservation Form. The Library will try to locate the item, and will notify the reader when it becomes available. Reservation forms are available at the Circulation Desk.

Photocopying & Scanning

Self service photocopying machines are located at several points on level one of the Library. The copiers will accept cards only, and the cost per copy is $0.25. Cards are available at the Circulation Desk at an initial cost of $2.00.
Please note that Main Library copy cards will not work in copy machines at other campus locations.

The Library will scan appropriate material for its patrons. Patrons must supply an email address for delivery of scanned material. Please apply at the Circulation Desk for this service.

Computer Facilities

The Library's computer lab is located on level three of the Library. UWI Cave Hill staff and students must obtain a user name and password from the Computer Centre. The use of the lab is governed by the Main Library's Code of Conduct, its regulations and policies, and also by the regulations and policies that govern the other computer labs on campus.
Special conditions apply for non-UWI users. Please contact Readers' Services for additional information.

There is a wireless network on level two of the Library that will give access to the Internet. Access to the University network and email is forthcoming in 2006. Patrons may use laptops in the Library provided that there are no trailing wires and that you do not unplug Library equipment. You must ensure that you have the appropriate wireless LAN card in your laptop in order to secure access.
